I have a Boston Terrier with cushings disease. However this post should be considered for any pet consuming food that contains corn, soy or canola and now afalfa products. Being genetically modified crops, these popular foods supply more than 85% of the grain market and glyphosate is spray directly on young crop plants. GM afalfa has recently been approved. It is claimed this weed killer biodegrades quickly but Dr. Don Huber a plant pathologist and soil microbiologist says not so and it concentrates in the seeds of these plants. He also says that when it does diodegrade the metabolites of glyphosate are more toxic than the weed killer itself deeply affecting soil microbiology, nutrient supply and has even stimulated an as yet unnamed organism that is negatively impacting animals fed these crops. I cannot say that glyphosate is responsible for my pets disease but I immediately replaced her dry food containg corn with a higher priced diet absent any GM ingredients. No, it did not stop the progression of Cushings disease. What is my intent is to encourage anyone who reads this message to watch the Dr. Mercola video interview with Dr. Don Huber. It is long and the meat is in the last third of the interview so don't give up. It is important not only for your pet but for every consumer of these crops. The consequences are unbelievable.

Sorry your BT has cushings. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, consumers do not know when its GM since not all produce/vegetables have a sticker label with the code starting with 8. A PLU code contains 4-5 digits total. •Conventionally grown food has 4 digits starting with 4, i.e. 4401 •Organic food has 5 digits starting with 9, i.e. 94011 •Genetically modified (GM) food starts with 8 and has 5 digits - i.e. 84011 There are other reasons to avoid corn as well as grains: http://completenaturalnutrition.com/blog/mold-and-mycotoxins/ Sandi www.whosyourvet.com

Thanks Jerry! Didn't Dr. Mercola's article cite 83% of feed corn is GM? Now they are beginning to market GM sweet corn! runswiththewindthewind is right, eliminating grain from the dogs diet is important for many other reasons too. I was just reading about Cushings Disease the other day. You have my sympathy. :-} If you need any help with non-tox pest control methods, or ideas on non-toxic household products, let me know.
