Before You Vaccinate Your Pet, Be Aware of Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME)

Granulomatous meningoencephalitis, or GME, is an inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that comes on quickly and is life-threatening. The condition is most often seen in small breed, female dogs between the ages of six months and ten years. There are three forms of GME, and a dog can develop more than one variety. Onset and symptoms depend on what form the disease takes and its location in a dog's body. In multifocal GME involving several locations within the central nervous system, sadly, survival time is often measured in days once the disease is identified.
