Two Unique Animals with an Astonishing 360-Degree Field of Vision

Story at-a-glance -

  • There are many animals on planet Earth with better eyesight than humans. There’s the little tarsier, a squirrel-sized primate with the largest eyes of any mammal relative to body size. If a human’s eyes were proportionally as large as the tarsier’s, they would be the size of grapefruits!
  • Another example: the eyes of the chameleon are just as impressive as his ability to change colors. They move independently of each other, which allows the lizard to scan for prey and predators simultaneously.
  • The dragonfly has eyes so big they nearly cover her head, sort of like a tiny helmet. And like the chameleon, the dragonfly has a full 360-degree field of vision.
  • Believe it or not, the rectangular shape of a goat’s eyes gives him vision covering 320-340 degrees, meaning he can see virtually all around him without having to move.
  • Other animals with impressive eyesight include owls, sharks, eagles, big cats, and the strange little creature known as the mantis shrimp.
