We’re continuing on with our Healthy Pets Game Changer nominations, which recognize people in the animal community who are going the extra mile to enhance the well-being of our animal friends. Today’s nominee is Dr. Will Falconer, who started out as a conventional veterinarian in 1980 and gradually began holistic retraining that led him to homeopathy.

It was because Dr. Falconer noticed so many of his animal patients falling ill due to veterinary interventions that were unnecessary — and often described as preventative — that he began to seek out better options. It’s a common refrain among conventional-turned-holistic vets.

On his website, VitalAnimal.com, Dr. Falconer writes, “I was spending my hours and days treating one sick animal at a time, many of whom were victims of over-vaccination, toxic pest control and toxic, lifeless diets, and yet these preventable problems weren’t going away, because the diseases were now often chronic and long lasting.”1

Even after finding homeopathy and practicing it for years, Dr. Falconer realized that he could reach more animal guardians if he took his teachings online — and that’s just what he did.

“I was saying the same thing over and over to one pet owner at a time and realizing that I could never keep up with how many sick animals there were,” he said during our interview. “So I started a website, and started teaching, and slowly over the years, slowed my practice intake down to where now I'm just meeting with a handful of older clients who have been with me for a long time, and really focused on teaching.”

Teaching Pet Owners ‘Natural Rearing’

On his website, Dr. Falconer teaches pet owners how to raise their animals naturally, leading to “wildly healthy” pets. Pointing out how wolves and dogs are genetically very similar, as are — likely — cats and wild cats, like bobcats, he uses these wild animals as a model to follow, in terms of diet, for instance.

“So we can immediately see, well, anybody out there in the wild eating dry chunks of food, food-like particles, as one of my colleagues calls them? No, not so much,” he says. “You know, they're eating something akin to prey and we can mock that up at home.”

While Dr. Falconer never became disenchanted with his veterinary practice, as many do when faced with health challenges they’re unable to treat using the conventional toolbox they’re operating with, his intuition led him to leave the mixed veterinary practice where he was working in Wisconsin.

From there, he stumbled upon the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, and was intrigued by their journal, which featured articles about acupuncture and homeopathic medicine. Eager to learn more, he began reading Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats — the handbook of holistic health care for pets.

Dr. Pitcairn holds a Ph.D. in immunology and is also a world-renowned expert and educator in veterinary homeopathy. From there, he worked as a consultant as a state veterinarian in Hawaii, helping to prompt beneficial changes for animals in the state and, through a series of fortunate events, was able to meet Dr. Pitcairn and join a professional training with him, which furthered his respect for homeopathy and desire to share it with animal guardians around the world.

“I trained and I just fell in love with it,” Dr. Falconer said. “It's 200-year-old science that's still working today. And it's got principles that are very, very reproducible, unlike modern medicine which seems to change with the year … And these medicines are nontoxic. I mean, you can't go wrong.”

Pet Guardians Raising Vital Animals

Today, Dr. Falconer’s primary audience are pet owners looking to improve their pet’s health and raise a vital animal. It’s free to join Dr. Falconer’s Vital Animal Pack, which offers digital courses and handouts to help you help your pet live more naturally. Pet owners can also register periodically to learn more about how to use acute homeopathy on their pets, empowering you to take an active role in your pet’s health.

This is one of Dr. Falconer’s greatest joys, as once he realized he could help animals that couldn’t get well with conventional medicine, he wanted to share this knowledge with others. “It's an empowering thing for an animal owner to learn to trust their judgment and not just turn it all over to a professional and say, ‘Whatever you say I'll do,’” he said.

“So these people are now thinking for themselves. They're saying, ‘Well, I've read about vaccines and it doesn't look like there's any science that says we should do this every year … So I'm not going to do that anymore.’ And they'll talk to their veterinarians if they've got a conventional vet, or they'll maybe move to a homeopathic vet as their primary vet and say, ‘You know, my goal is to get this animal as healthy as possible in as natural a way as we can.’”

Once pet owners transition their pets to eating right and avoiding an excess of toxic preventative medicine, such as excessive vaccination and chemical pest control, Dr. Falconer says they often become “shining examples of what’s possible,” adding:

“I call them ‘vital animals’ because they're like glowing. They're attractive. They're magnetically drawing people to them and they go, ‘Unbelievable. How did you get her coat so soft? She shines in the sunlight.

Her teeth are so white and her breath is so sweet and she's just kind of present. She's not a bouncing off the wall. She's not jumping up on me. She's all self contained and really in her own healthy, healthy state.’"

Dr. Falconer’s Healthy Pets Awesome Recognition Award is well-deserved, and best of all, the information he’s sharing with animal guardians is timeless and applicable to all the pets in your life. Whether you’re a guardian to a horse, a dog, a ferret or a rabbit, one great gift of homeopathy is that it’s applicable to all of them, as is the whole basis of natural rearing, which transcends species lines, Dr. Falconer notes.

Ironically, he counts the fact that people didn’t need to come into his clinic as often as one of the greatest testaments to his success. Rather than struggling with a chronic condition that required multiple visits to treat and re-treat, they were able to use Dr. Falconer’s teachings and the corresponding natural lifestyle to keep their pets vibrant and well.
