Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), known to cause cancer and immune-system suppression, also interfere with marine mammals' fertility. The last resident killer whale pod in the UK hasn't had a calf in nearly two decades, and it's thought PCBs are to blame for the pod's infertility and perhaps inevitable extinction.
